I read something on here a while ago about how we associate white with good and pure and black as dark and scary and how that has racist origins or something.

And I’m not disregarding this idea and I have no doubt that racism probably plays some part in this.

However, I was just thinking about nature and I realized something different. Okay, picture wintertime: the snow has just fallen and there’s an untouched blanket of pure white across all the land. It’s great to look at, no? It’s so calming and pure. Now, picture a normal dark night, meaning it’s like pitch black out. Kinda scary, yeah? You can’t see anything and there’s more potential for danger in these black outdoors than when you can actually see.

So basically what I’m saying is although racism probably does play some part in the fact that we see white as pure and black as bad, I think nature also plays a role, and honestly I think it may even play a bigger role in this association than racism itself.
